Abstract

Skin tears are common across the entire spectrum of health settings. Careful selection of dressings with an atraumatic and non-adherent wound contact layer, such as silicone, has been documented to limit skin damage/trauma with dressing removal and to minimize pain at dressing changes. The purpose of this interactive presentation is to discuss results of a recent randomized controlled study comparing the effectiveness of dressings with and without soft silicone interface for the healing of skin tears. We aim to share our clinical experiences and engage in a dynamic dialogue focusing on dressing performance, patients' concerns, and cost implications for skin tear management. Future directions for skin tear research, innovations and preventative approaches will be highlighted.
