Karen Edwards has been an RN for 29 years and a CWOCN for 24 years. She was an active panel member of the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) from 2011 to 2018. She has published several articles with ISTAP and independently. Karen has a Bachelor’s in Education and prior to nursing she taught High School Advanced Sciences. She also has a Master of Sport Science and was a certified diabetes educator for the Diabetes Treatment Center in Ft. Myers, FL. She currently works at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, an 1100-bed academic medical center, the largest in Alabama and in the top 5 in the US. Many complex patients come to this facility, which makes for interesting case studies in all aspects of the WOCN role.
