Mary Engel RN, NSWOC, WOCC(C)

Mary has received her Community Mental Health Diploma and has completed the Northern Nurse Practitioner Health and Welfare Canada program. She started her career in psychiatry and after 6 years moved to outpost nursing. She returned to community nursing and completed the CAET EP in 2001. She worked in the community setting contracted by a local acute care hospital and provided private consults to the long term care facilities of this region. She afterwards retired from community work to focus on acute care. During this time she was a preceptor to NSWOC and nursing students.
She has been involved in the NSWOC EP starting with CAET K2P Edema Management and Wound Management courses and then continued with NSWOC EP as an Academic Advisor in the ostomy cohort.

She was the CAET Ontario Regional Director from 2008-2012. She has been involved in the local Ostomy Canada chapter, journaling clubs and is a Lymphovenous Ontario Association member. She also has contributed to a variety of publications, conferences, and workshop presentations.

Mary is passionate about helping individuals adapt to an ostomy and lymphedema. She also enjoys alternately sewing, reading, swimming and spending time with her two-year-old granddaughter.
