Abstract/Description
This session will focus on offloading/redistribution of pressure using custom foot orthotics and footwear. Specifically, John will review types of footwear and modifications for; off the shelf, orthopaedic and custom-made shoes, and their functions. Also, John will discuss wound offloading using various methods of orthotic designs. There are many challenges with foot related wound management not the least of which is that patients, most often, have to walk on their wounds! This presentation will also include practical discussion on some of the most common challenges patients and practitioners will face when transitioning from casts and medical boots back into footwear, for example; who can provide the services needed, costs, styles, work place vs casual, compliance and non-compliance. John welcomes participation via Q&A and hands on demonstrations so come prepared to take part.
